When Sleep Struggles Are a Good Sign

I (Brad) can’t sleep – and I’m kind of excited about that development! Now, anyone who knows me is likely re-reading that sentence for a typo. Afterall, I’m the guy who soaks in (and tries!) every sleep tip provided on The Coaching Lab sleep episodes, refers to sleep as modern-day magic, and has suggested Sleep Buds may be one of the greatest products ever created. And yet, I’m excited about my inability to sleep the past week or so. The temporary insomnia is tied to a new passion project. I’ve begun publishing a series of articles that pull together the very best physiological, psychological and even some philosophical insights for bolstering the 2nd half of life, running them through a practical application filter, and sharing them with the world through the new Not Done Yet! publication via Substack. We mentioned this in last week’s newsletter but some changes with the links shortly after sending may have affected access for some (sorry). The 1st article explaining the direction we’ll be taking is now available here free of charge (and we’re keeping subscription cost turned off so anyone who will benefit can access).

As we near 1/1/25, we’ll be highlighting various concepts around creating a clear, personal vision in our lives. A great place to start as we enter the 2nd half of November is to be on the lookout for “glimpses” or “sparks.” As you’re going through your day, when do you notice your heart skipping a beat? What projects or activities bring a smile? Rather than just moving on, make a note. Then, as we near the launch of 2025, gather up your basket of sparks and look for patterns that can be integrated into that vision. The Not Done Yet! project has been hiding beneath the surface for years, perhaps decades. What might be doing the same in your life? What might be some initial steps to exploring the pathway forward? Believe me, as much as I love sleep, it’s worth a few sleepless nights seeing it come to fruition!
